Let me introduce myself, I am Alicia. I am 40ish and I have 3 special needs kids (21, 12, 10). From a young age the only thing I can remember is wanting to be a mom, I got my wish. My 2 boys have Autism and each has their own other issues. My youngest and my only daughter has bad anxiety and possible mood disorder. With all that, I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom and get all their needs met.
As for me, I have been declining in health from the prolonged extreme stress. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple years ago, after 4 years of misdiagnoses. Along with that I have PTSD and anxiety from being hyper vigilant and on the move all the time. I will be getting into all this more in my blog post. Something that helps me through all this is my education. I have a BA in Psychology and Masters in Psychology specializing in Child and Adolescent Development. So between my degrees and personal experience I have a unique view on mental health which I want to share.
I am a small business owner too that I run from my home. 2020 has not been a good year at all like my others in the same boat. For fun I have a YouTube channel with my 12 year old son about Minecraft. Yes I play Minecraft, I will blog about this later. I run several fb and twitter accounts but most are not fitting my needs right now. This is the main reason to start a new blogging adventure with you all. When everything is normal, kids in school, I am very busy but feel more productive. My anxiety has messed me up pretty bad this year and I feel unfocused and unmotivated. I will continue to share all this with you.
Why Blog?
I have been blogging on and off for years but haven’t been able to narrow down a specific topic. I feel like I can do more good blogging about myself and my life. I want to break stereotypes and stigmas on mental health and disabled people. If my unique situation I feel I have a voice to share. I also would love to have my kids guest blog because their diagnoses and struggles. My middle son has a clear view on him self and his autism but my oldest is struggling big time to find his way. I have told him many times to start writing but it is overwhelming for him. With all that said, I have had a dream to write a book since my oldest was younger but never started. I think blogging will work better because I can skip around. Plus I like to write like I talk and I have been told that it is hard to follow some times.
The second part of this blog to start a journey to find my true self. I am a unique person but I still felt pressure from social norms to not express all of me. I have been a mom since I was 19 and real missed developing a persona outside of mom. I love being a mom and it has made me stronger than I could imagine, now it’s time to focus on me. Self-care has become a new trend but still many struggle with it including me. In the process of finding myself, I am hope that I will improve mentally and physically. I am on my second try at 40 and I would love to be blissfully happy in my old age.
